Lipault SA joined forces with the Jes Foord Foundation, donating 50 handbags to ‘The Handbag Project’ – an incredible initiative run by the organisation, assisting rape victims during the initial reporting process at the police station.
Whats in the bag
These handbags contain items such as a facecloth, soap, deodorant spray, new underwear and shampoo, and are donated to rape centres across the country. This bag is intended to start the victim on their healing journey, providing a little bit of hope in the midst of an unimaginable situation. The foundation seeks to turn rape victims into rape survivors, with its founder Jes Foords personal motto being “You have taken my body, but you will never take ME.”
The foundation aims to donate 400 handbags a month to Thuthuzela Centres in KZN. This is a small start, as these centres are looking for a minimum of 1000 handbags per month, with an alarming 3500 women coming through their doors each month. These statistics are incredibly sad, with it being said that only 25% of rape cases are actually reported. Jes Foords aim is to have 100% of rape cases reported, for justice to be served and most importantly for the survivor to be healed from this horrific crime.
You can help this incredible cause reach their target of delivering handbags to rape victims in need of support and hope by donating your time, second hand handbags or money here: http://www.jff.org.za/donate/ We look forward to supporting this initiative and seeing victims of rape be transformed into survivors!
